We’ll board the MV Samba and wind our way among the Galapagos Islands, going ashore early and staying late to capture great wildlife and landscape images.

We’ll work to become better photographers through a combination of on-boat PowerPoint lectures and one-on-one field instruction.  The Samba is a perfect venue for downloading and reviewing images, getting critical review, and preparing for the next outing.  And we will have the entire craft to ourselves!

The Galapagos Islands do present some challenging photographic situations - and we are prepared to help you deal with those and come back with great images!

We have timed this waterborne adventure for April, just as the waved albatross return from their many months at sea – seeking to find their mates and start new families.  We’ll be able to photograph them in flight and in courtship – and we might be lucky enough to find an egg in a nest!

The boobies will be fully engaged in nesting.  We’ll walk amongst nests filled with fledglings, and witness the famous courtship dances by the blue-footed boobies!

Not to be outdone, we’ll find male frigate birds inflating their balloon-like pouches, hoping to persuade a flying female that this is the place and time to start a family!

This route takes us to some great landscape opportunities.

We’ll have multiple opportunities to compose with tall cactus – sometimes with land iguanas chowing down on cactus lunches!

Our 2020 journey through the Galapagos is designed to give us great opportunities to photograph both flightless cormorants and Galapagos penguins!

And we’ll walk on lava flows that that will feel like they happened yesterday!  The art we can produce there is amazing!

We’ll have time to snorkel in several locations – we encourage you to bring along a small waterproof camera to “create” in and under the water, too.    We should be able to snorkel with both sea lions and penguins – and may see sharks and sea turtles while we are in the water!  The gear is provided on the Samba – and so are some easy-to-learn kayaks!

Join us as we explore the Galapagos on the Samba.  You will have a life-changing experience among the islands.  We’ll send you home with a wealth of images and help you improve your skills along the way.

The 2020 Galapagos Photography Odyssey is designed for a small group.  It is based in Ecuador, the safest and most stable country in South America.  The itinerary includes 3 nights of hotel lodging and 10 nights on the MV Samba.

The adventure will begin and end in Quito, Ecuador.  We will spend our first day in Quito, where we’ll explore colonial architecture.  We’ll lodge in the heart of old town Quito (a World Heritage Site) where we’ll be able to walk among structures built during the early days when the Spanish conquered this region.

Build the exposures that support the designs you intend in your images! Meet us a day early for a one day intense classroom workshop that will give you the skills to take control of your camera. We make it simple to move to manual exposure - and give you the tools to understand what you are doing and how to do it. Most people we teach never look back because it is easier than letting the wizards in the camera make your creative decisions for you. Then, we'll spend some time looking at our workflow - and how you can take great exposures and follow them to final images in Lightroom or Photoshop.
