Baby animals. Bears. Moose. Elk. Bison. Coyotes.

Ospreys sitting on nests clinging to canyon walls. Eagles soaring.

Green everywhere. New growth. Baby bison frolicking in lush grasses. The oldsters munching like crazy to make up for a lean winter.

Spring is also for hunting!

Streams filled with rushing water. Melting snow and spring showers combining to send torrents of water hurtling down canyons and over waterfalls.

Beavers, muskrats and waterfowl busy with all that water. Bison making stream crossings.

Reflections of sunrises and sunsets and storm clouds in smooth waters of lakes and still spots in rivers. Yellowstone Lake. The Madison River. Even the thermal basins showcase the clouds and light!

The green of spring in juxtaposition with the wild colors of thermal features. Bold designs as geysers throw steaming water backlit by early day light.

Yellowstone is a photographic paradise in the spring. We have been photographing in this magnificent ecosystem for three decades – and we know where to be when for great light and wildlife opportunities.

This adventure is designed for photography – that means we’ll take the time we need to “work the scenes” rather than give you 10 minutes at every spot in the park.  We’ll work hard to get you to each photographic opportunity in great light – but also expect us to deviate from plans as opportunities present themselves.

Join us for six full days (seven nights) of great photography in Yellowstone. We’ll wake in a great position for good light on exciting landscapes and great animal action.

This adventure begins and ends in West Yellowstone, Montana. Most breakfasts and lunches included.

  • 2019 Rates: $4,100 Double Occupancy; $4,900 Single Occupancy

  • Adventure begins and ends in West Yellowstone, Montana
  • Our lodging at the Gray Wolf Inn positions us to move to great locations for early and late light
  • You'll have plenty of room in our vehicle - a seat for you and another for your gear!
  • See notes below

Yes, you can do a spring photography outing in Yellowstone on your own.  And you may very well come back with great images.

Do remember that the Yellowstone ecosystem is four million acres.  We have been photographing in that ecosystem for over 25 years in all seasons and all weather.  We have a pretty good idea where to look for hungry bears in the spring, where the elk and moose like to hide their babies, where we might find an osprey on a nest, and where there might be a coyote hunting rodents.  We also know where to go when the weather closes inand where to be when the storm begins to break up.

Our safaris are geared to getting you to great opportunities in great light.  We’re taking you to the places we would go if we were here on our own.  Join us and learn your way around the parks with our insights – then come back on your own if you want – you’ll have some strong ideas on what to look for, where, and when!
