Dramatic peaks!  Glistening in the early morning sun!

Sometimes alternately hidden and unveiled by swirling clouds.

Often providing a stunning backdrop for a guanaco!

Or reflected in a mountain lake.

Glaciers cascading down dramatic rock faces, spawning waterfalls.

Some calving into fresh-water lakes.

And a huge glacier, Perito Moreno, that we will walk on, with crampons, cameras in hand!

Condors and rhea.

Eagles and caracaras! And the Magellanic woodpecker!

This is beautiful big-sky country.  Wide open spaces where you can see for miles.

A place where gauchos work cattle with horses and dogs.

A place where we can make dramatic compositions of landscapes, glaciers, birds and beasts!

We have worked with local providers to design and build an adventure that explores the Patagonia region of Argentina and Chile.  We’ll gather in Buenos Aires, Argentina and fly south (domestic round trip included in cost).  We’ll initially base in El Chalten, giving us access to amazing vistas and trails in the Fitzroy region.

Then we’ll relocate to El Calafate, putting us in position to experience Perito Moreno glacier and some interesting bird photography opportunities.

We’ll journey across the border into Chilé and set up camp in luxurious yurts in Patagonia Camp.  From here, we’ll explore the Torres del Paine region of Chilé’s Patagonia!  Prepare yourself to capture a wealth of images – breaking for classy picnic lunches with extraordinary views!

For many, the surprise will be the opportunity to photograph such stunning and rugged mountainous terrain (including glaciers) without ascending to high altitudes.  Indeed, we may never ascend to 2,500 feet above sea level, even when walking on glaciers!

Includes transfers in Buenos Aires (assuming you arrive on January 31 or February 1 and depart on February 13), domestic airfare to and from El Calafate, Argentina, Lodging, all breakfasts, most lunches (some are pack lunches, others are picnics in the field), some dinners, local English-speaking guides, prep materials, photography instruction and assistance.

Flights to and from Buenos Aires, Argentina (our base camp for this adventure) at your own expense.  Extra nights at the beginning or end at your own expense.  Alcoholic drinks at your own expense.  Tipping is expected and your responsibility.

This will be a small group, 6-10 people.

While the adventure will not be terribly demanding, you will need to be able to manage your gear on forest trails. You will also have the opportunity to trek on a glacier with some of your gear.

So many birds! Such good photography opportunities. So little physical effort required. Forty percent of the planet's hummingbirds are found in Ecuador. Thirty-seven percent of the tanagers (which don't show up in the Old World at all). Conservation has teamed up with landowners to protect natural cloudforest habitats - and the result is birds sitting on branches predictably in a way you can photograph them. Did we mention Cock-of-the-rock? Or mountain tourcan? Small group so secure your space before it is gone!

Join us in Brazil's Pantanal for a wild adventure that features both jaguars and an amazing array of birds, reptiles, and mammals. The Pantanal is the only place in the world where one can reliably find and photograph jaguars - as they are nocturnal hunters everywhere else. The birds here are fantastic - this is one of our favorite places to photograph flying birds (we can help you build your skills). Add in close-up encounters with giant river otters and so much more. Join us for this wild adventure!
